Even though Guillermo del Toro has another four or five months to go on the Pacific Rim 2 script, the director says he'd like to have the sequel lead directly into a third film.
Speaking to Collider at a press event for The Book of Life, del Toro confirmed that the first draft of the Pacific Rim 2 script is complete, and he expects to begin pre-production on the film by next August or September. The Hellboy director also let slip that he'd like to not only handle the sequel as something "radically different" from the original, but plans to have it set up a third film, reintroducing familiar characters.
