Frankenweenie and Seven Psychopaths Play London Film Fest

The line-up for the 56th London Film Festival has been unveiled, and it’s an eclectic mix of Hollywood blockbusters, foreign and arthouse fare, and films that are sure to be in the running come awards season.

The October festival is also mixing it up this year, introducing specific strands like Thrill, Cult, Laugh and Love to make this year’s schedule more accessible to the average film fan.

The festival kicks off with the European Premiere of Tim Burton’s 3D animation Frankenweenie, while high profile Gala screenings include Ben Affleck’s tense thriller Argo, Ben Wheatley’s black comedy Sightseers, and Hyde Park on Hudson, a period flick that stars Bill Murray as Franklin D Roosevelt.

Martin McDonagh’s In Bruges follow-up Seven Psychopaths – which stars Colin Farrell, Sam Rockwell and Christopher Walken – is sure to be a hot ticket, while Jake Gyllenhaal cop flick End of Watch will also be playing in competition.

Nintendo is lending its support to proceedings, sponsoring the Gala Screening of musical comedy The Sapphires, while fans of the Stone Roses will want to check out Spike Island, about a group of kids making a pilgrimage to the titular gig.

Proceedings conclude with a screening of Great Expectations, starring Ralph Fiennes and Helena Bonham Carter.

The BFI London Film Festival runs all over the capital from October 10 to 21, with tickets going on sale to the general public on September 24. For more details, head to the official site.

Comic Book Movies Top 2012's Movie Mistakes List

Three of 2012's biggest comic book blockbusters have topped the list of the year's biggest movie mistakes, compiled by movie goof website www.moviemistakes.com.

The site, which adds up continuity errors, factual errors and technical issues amongst others, lists The Amazing Spider-Man as the most mistake-filled movie of 2012, closely followed by The Dark Knight Rises (20 mistakes) and Marvel's The Avengers (16).

The Amazing Spider-Man's biggest issue was continuity. Examples include inconsistencies with prop and wound placement, such as a vertical wound suddenly appearing as diagonal, and disappearing and reappearing dust on Peter Parker's jacket.

The Dark Knight Rises had a handful of revealing mistakes, including a lighting screen reflected in Commissioner Gordon's glasses, and a lack of settled snow on any street lights or mailboxes during the final act, despite the fact it is relentlessly snowing throughout.

Marvel's The Avengers had a series of factual errors, including spelling video game company NAMCO Bandai as 'NAMECO' Bandai in the end credits.

Considering the positive reviews and box office gross the three films have generated, it goes to show gaffes such as these can't keep a good movie down.

Jeremy Renner Considering WikiLeaks Role

Not content with starring in three major blockbusters in one calendar year, Jeremy Renner is currently considering playing Julian Assange in a proposed WikiLeaks movie.

Renner – who popped up in The Avengers and Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, and has a leading role in the forthcoming Bourne Legacy (clip below) – is apparently in conversation with DreamWorks about the project, which would chart the rise and fall of the website as well as Assange's recent legal difficulties.

Deadline broke the story, with the site reporting that Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn helmer Bill Condon is the frontrunner to direct the project.

DreamWorks previously acquired the rights to the books WikiLeaks: Inside Julian Assange’s War on Secrecy and WikiLeaks: My Time with Julian Assange at the World’s Most Dangerous Werbsite, although there’s no word as to whether the film will be based on either of those tomes.
