Hanks and Zemeckis to Launch Major Matt Mason

Oscar winners Tom Hanks and Robert Zemeckis are now moving forward on the long-gestating space feature Major Matt Mason, which would have Hanks set to star with Zemeckis directing.

"I started tinkering with the story after Larry Crowne," said Hanks, who co-wrote the astronaut screenplay alongside Graham Yost (Speed).

Based on a toy from 1966 (prior to the moon landing), Major Matt Mason takes place on the moon and follows a team of people based at a space station. Said Yost of the film, "There's no bad guys. There are no aliens. Nothing like that. It's just, can you survive?"

The project will mark a reunion for Hanks and Zemeckis, who have teamed on a number of movies including Forrest Gump, Cast Away, and The Polar Express.

Uncharted Movie Loses Another Director, Gains New Writers

The writers of the National Treasure franchise have boarded Sony's Uncharted movie as Limitless director Neil Burger exits the long-gestating game-to-film adaptation. Burger had succeeded Oscar nominee David O. Russell, whose story plans rankled fans as did his choice of Mark Wahlberg to play hero Nathan Drake.

Variety reports Marianne and Cormac Wibberley will rewrite Uncharted: Drake's Fortune for Atlas Entertainment and Arad Prods. (the former's Charles Roven produced the Nolan Batman films, while the latter is run by Spider-Man producer Avi Arad). "Project will wait to tap a new helmer until the Wibberleys complete their script," according to the trade.

In addition to scripting the National Treasure movies, the Wibberleys also scripted Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle and created the TV series Common Law.

Dumb and Dumber 2 Plot Details Revealed

If the Farrelly Brothers are to be believed, their long-gestating Dumb and Dumber sequel is still on track, with the boys even revealing some plot details.

BEWARE OF DUMB SPOILERS BELOW

Speaking to Digital Spy, Bobby Farrelly said: "It's definitely something we've been hoping for a long time. We always wanted to get the two original guys Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels back together and see what they're up to. Now it's almost 20 years after the original and the other guys are in a point in their career where they had so much fun the first time that they're willing to do it. We will make this movie."

As for the plot, Farrelly explained: “The story revolves around the fact that one of them may have sired a child. They want to go and find the child because he’s having a kidney problem and he wants to ask him for one of his kidneys.”

The brothers hope to shoot the film in spring for an autumn 2013 release, and in case audiences were in any doubt as to the continuing stupidity of their two main characters, Farrelly added “I can tell you that there is no growth out of either one of them.”

Mark Wahlberg and Liam Neeson in Neuromancer?

The long-gestating screen adaptation of William Gibson's cyberpunk lit classic Neuromancer is reportedly eyeing two big names to star in it.

Moviehole reports that offers have made to Mark Wahlberg and Liam Neeson to play the leads in the film, which is set to be directed by Splice's Vicenzo Natali.

"Wahlberg, who has a solid working relationship with the film’s producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura (he cast the former in Four Brothers and Shooter), would play the anti-hero Case. Neeson, who like Wahlberg will receive a pay-or-play deal, would be the twisted tool Armitage," according to the site.

Moviehole adds that their source says filming is expected to finally comment once Natali wraps production on his current film, Haunter. That would peg Neuromancer for a 2014 release.
