Beverly Hills Cop: Tropic Thunder's Brandon T. Jackson to Play Axel Foley's Son

Brandon T. Jackson, whose credits include Tropic Thunder and Percy Jackson (We'll forgive him for Big Mamma's House 3), is reportedly in final negotiations for the lead role as the son of Eddie Murphy's Axel Foley in the Beverly Hills Cop TV series pilot. The news was reported by Humor Mill.

Inspired by the film trilogy that launched in 1984, the potential series centers on Foley's son, a Beverly Hills-based cop who is trying to escape the shadow of his father (Murphy), now Chief Of Police in Detroit.

The new Beverly Hills Cop comes from Shawn Ryan (Last Resort, The Shield), and will also feature Murphy in a recurring role, with both men will serve as executive producers.

Robocop Now a Terrorist-Killing Transformer

I bet you were beginning to get psyched for that Robocop remake, huh? What with all the cool actors being lined up for it -- Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson, Hugh Laurie, Jackie Earle Haley, Jay Baruchel, Michael Kenneth Williams and Abbie Cornish -- and it being from the director of Elite Squad. Well, according to one respected film journalist who has read the script it's time to lower your expectations.

Latino-Review points out a blistering series of tweets from HitFix's Drew McWeeny who read the script for the reboot, which starts filming this fall for a 2013 release. Here are a few particularly caustic revelations about the script so be advised of SPOILERS:

"In the film, when Murphy is turned into Robocop 1.0, it’s described 'a high-tech version of the ’80s suit.' Then they show a focus group scene where criminals laugh at the design. 'He looks like a toy from the ’80s!' So they redesign him to look 'meaner' as Robocop 2.0, who passes focus group approval. So they not only make sure to include the original design, they also point out it’s dated and stupid. *facepalm*"

"Oh, god… oh dear god… Robocop is a Transformer. He goes from 'social mode' to 'combat mode' and back. Full transformation."

Robocop is dropped into an Al-Qaeda training camp at one point to see what he can do, while the ED-209s are deployed to Iran to stop suicide bombers.

There are a few pretty lousy-sounding winks to lines from the original Paul Verhoeven film (and even to its poster). There are also said to be several different versions of the RoboCop suit used through the film.

Three Hobbit Movies Still Possible?

Could Peter Jackson's upcoming Hobbit films still expand into a trilogy? Recent claims seem to suggest a third movie is indeed feasible.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. is considering one more feature for J.R.R. Tolkien's classic tale, or so says an inside source close to the production. However, this would require additional shooting which would begin this summer for about two months in New Zealand. This would also mean securing new actor deals and story rights.

"If we’re going to do it, we have to make a decision soon," said the insider. "It’s strongly driven by the filmmakers' desire to tell more of the story."

It's important to keep in mind that this same rumor was debunked a few weeks ago prior to The Hobbit's Comic-Con panel. Nevertheless, Jackson did tease the following day that he wanted to shoot more footage. As a result, speculation surrounding the notion of a third movie has only accelerated, with this report being the first real sign of any substantial news on the subject.

In the meantime, we do know that the first film, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, is scheduled for release on December 10, 2012, with The Hobbit: There and Back Again slated for December 13, 2013. A third film would likely be released the following year in 2014 -- much like Warners did with The Lord of the Rings trilogy, which was spread across three consecutive years.
