In the run up to the release of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in the UK, there's an online exhibit titled The Legend of Yokai.
According to the exhibit, before the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles emerged from the sewers, the myth of the Kappa Yokai told of mythical creatures "summoned by the spirits of honour, wisdom, courage and brotherhood." The turtles would later represent these ideals in inimitable fashion.
The slideshow below showcases some of the work, created by artists from around the world drawing on different styles and artistic movements.
