Anne Hathaway Eyes Spielberg's Robopocalypse

Imagine Catwoman and Thor together in a sci-fi film directed by Steven Spielberg. It might just happen.

The Hollywood Reporter says Anne Hathaway is in early talks to play the female lead opposite Chris Hemsworth in Robopocalypse.

No details yet on their roles, but the project is an adaptation of Daniel H. Wilson's book. It's set to be Spielberg's next film following the release of Lincoln.

Former 20th Century Fox boss Tom Rothman has also come aboard to produce Robopocalypse, which is a Fox-DreamWorks co-production.

Robopocalypse is set to open April 25, 2014.

First Look at the Trailer for Spielberg's Lincoln

Check out this preview of the new trailer for director Steven Spielberg's Lincoln. The trailer will debut during a Google+ Hangout on Thursday, September 13, 2012, at 4 p.m. PT, followed by a live chat with Spielberg and Lincoln cast member Joseph Gordon-Levitt:

Lincoln stars Daniel Day-Lewis, Sally Field, David Strathairn, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, James Spader, Hal Holbrook and Tommy Lee Jones. The movie opens in limited release November 9 and then expands into theaters November 16.

Catch Me If You Can Caught on Blu-ray

The Spielberg titles on Blu just keep coming! Paramount Home Media Distribution will bring the Oscar-nominated hit, Catch Me If You Can, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks, to Blu-ray December 4, 2012.

On a modest $52 million budget, the film, based on the extraordinary true story of Frank Abagale Jr, a young man who forged checks and posed as an airline pilot, a doctor and a lawyer, grossed over $350 million worldwide.

Catch Me If You Can will come to Blu-ray with a digital remastered 1080p hi-def presentation, mixed in English 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio, French 5.1 Dolby Digital, Spanish 5.1 Dolby Digital and Portuguese 5.1 Dolby Digital with English, English SDH, French, Spanish and Portuguese subtitles. Extras will be ported over from the original two-disc DVD set. Goodies include the following:

Jaws Swims to Theaters August 23rd!

Jaws is coming to a Cinemark XD theater near you for one night only! The 1975 Steven Spielberg classic, which just premiered on Blu-ray last week (read our review here), will kick off Cinemark’s Fall Classic Film Series on Thursday, August 23, 2012.

From the official press release, "As part of Universal Pictures’ ongoing 100th Anniversary celebration, Jaws was one of 13 classic Universal films to be digitally remastered and fully restored from 35mm original film elements. Over the course of several months, skilled technicians worked with Steven Spielberg to meticulously balance color, remove dirt and scratches, and repair any damage to the film elements shot by shot and frame by frame.

“Jaws is one of the most influential pictures in Hollywood history and changed the landscape of how movies are released,” states James Meredith, VP of Marketing & Communications for Cinemark. “With this incredible restoration, fans now have the opportunity to see one of Hollywood’s legendary films in crystal clear digital projection and incredible surround sound. Some of our locations will be featuring these titles on our Cinemark XD Extreme Digital Cinema screen!”

In addition to Jaws, Cinemark has selected six titles that were visionary films at their time of release, and still stand as true “classics” in every sense of the word. The list of films and dates of their presentation are:

Jurassic Park 3D Gets Bumped Up to Spring

Universal Pictures has recently changed up several of its release dates for 2013, including Steven Spielberg's 3D release of Jurassic Park. The 1993 adventure film will now be hitting theaters in the spring, moving from July 18 to April 5.

Additionally, The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Ryan Reynolds' zombie flick R.I.P.D. will take over the July 19 slot, leaving behind its original June 28 frame.

The studio has also set release dates for About Time (May 10), Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall (June 28) and 2 Guns (August 16).

What Other Spielberg Films Could Go IMAX?

Following the exciting announcement that Raiders of the Lost Ark is now set to debut in IMAX theaters next month, director Steven Spielberg revealed that he might someday work the same mojo on another film from his past:

"I think the only other movie I would ever think about going out on an IMAX screen would be Close Encounters of the Third Kind," Spielberg said in a new interview. "Forty percent of that film was shot in 70 millimeters, so the conversion would look extraordinary if we ever did put it up on an IMAX screen."

Nevertheless, the filmmaker seems confident about the transfer for Raiders -- although he did admit to his initial skepticism. "I didn't know if the 1981 print would stand up to a full IMAX transfer, so I came expecting a sort of grainy, muddy, and overly enlarged representation of the movie I had made [31] years ago," he said. "And I was blown away by the fact that it looked better than the movie I had made [31] years ago... All the shadows in the earlier scenes that we shot in Hawaii [were] always kind of muddy anyway on 35mm, because we couldn’t schlep all of our big arc lights down into this valley. Suddenly, there was definition in the shadows, which I had never seen before. And the shadows weren’t murky and washed out; they were sharp as a tack."

As for future projects, Spielberg added, "I'm going to do an IMAX camera test, [both] a 2 and 3D test for my next movie Robopocalypse, and I haven't decided whether I'm going to use the IMAX cameras. I haven't decided whether it's going to be 2D or 3D yet, but I am in September going to start doing some tests."

Hemsworth May Star in Spielberg's Robopocalypse

Director Steven Spielberg reportedly wants Aussie actor Chris Hemsworth to star in his upcoming sci-fi epic Robopocalypse.

Deadline claims that, "amid much secrecy (including assumed names), Spielberg met and now wants Hemsworth in his next helping effort." The site adds, though, that no official offer has been made yet to Hemsworth, who has had a great summer with two hits under his belt, The Avengers and Snow White and the Huntsman.

Based on Daniel H. Wilson's book, Robopocalypse recently received a rewrite from Drew Goddard, who also directed Hemsworth in The Cabin in the Woods.

Hemsworth next shoots Thor: The Dark World for Marvel Studios and Disney.
