Capcom Promises New Mega Man on Consoles

After fans were told not to expect a new game in the Mega Man series to coincide with the franchise's 25th anniversary this year, many were worried that this signalled Capcom had no plans to expand upon the series any further. Thankfully, in a new interview the company has revealed this isn't the case.

I can say with certainty that you’ve not seen the last of the Blue Bomber on consoles and handhelds.

Speaking with Nintendo Power (via Siliconera), Capcom USA senior vice president Christian Svensson explained that we'd be seeing a lot more of the Blue Bomber in future on both handhelds and, interestingly, consoles too.

He explained, "I can say with certainty that you’ve not seen the last of the Blue Bomber on consoles and handhelds, and, with luck, we’ll be celebrating his 50th anniversary, including all of the games you’re going to enjoy over the next 25 years.

"That said, an issue we’ve had in the past has been talking about games and announcing them before we’re certain they’re going to come out, which unfortunately has lead to profound disappointment for many fans. So for now, I’m going to have to stay mum about any details."

The last game to be released in the series was Mega Man 10 back in 2010 on XBLA, PSN and WiiWare.

Firefly: Browncoats Unite on Science Channel

The time has come, my fellow Browncoats. After months of hype from their tenth anniversary panels at San Diego and New York Comic-Con, the cast and crew of Firefly will reunite once more for Firefly: Browncoats Unite, a special televised event on Science Channel.

This 60-minute special will feature creator Joss Whedon, Nathan Fillion and the rest of the Serenity crew as they provide the complete oral history on the franchise that began a decade ago. On November 11 at 10pm ET/PT, fans will be treated to secrets from the set, exclusive cast interviews and footage from this year's massive SDCC panel that dominated the convention.

Joining Whedon and Fillion are cast members Sean Maher, Summer Glau, Adam Baldwin, Morena Baccarin, Alan Tudyk, Gina Torres and Jewel Staite, as well as executive producer Tim Minear and executive story editor Jose Molina. In honor of this gathering, Science Channel was able to recreate the set of Serenity, parts and all.

"When Science Channel began airing Firefly in 2011, we immediately realized that these fans are a subculture united by a unique and fanatical passion for the series,” says Debbie Adler Myers, GM and Executive VP of Science Channel. "Our goal is to present them the series they love, but in a totally new and surprising way."

The network's Saturday extravaganza begins at 7am ET/PT with an all-day marathon of the 14-episode series. Later that evening at 8pm, the final two episodes will be enhanced and presented as Firefly: Special Edition, which will offer viewers additional insight into the inner workings of the series with behind-the-scenes info.

Warner Bros. Turns 90, Gives Wizard of Oz 3D Release

Just as Universal Studios is winding down their impressive 100th Anniversary celebration, Warner Bros. is starting their 90th Anniversary in 2013.

Warner Bros. announced their new 90th Anniversary logo today, and with it they also announced three massive box sets, not to mention their intentions to convert the beloved classic, The Wizard of Oz, into 3D. Take a look at the new logo:

The 3D version of The Wizard Oz is slated to arrive sometime next year, around September or October. No word just yet whether this post-conversion will see a theatrical release or just Blu-ray 3D.

Warner Home Video also announced a slew of box sets in anticipation for their 90th Anniversary, including a 100-film DVD collection and 50-film Blu-ray collection, out January 29, 2013. Both limited edition sets will have a suggested retail of $597.92 and feature lobby cards and a collectible poster. There will be UltraViolet cloud streaming digital copy of each included film. The sets will also include two documentaries, "Tales from the Warner Bros. Lot" as well as another documentary, "The Warner Bros. Lot Tour."

You can pre-order the Blu-ray or DVD box sets on Amazon. Both are currently selling $418.54.

More about the documentaries, according to the press release, "Tales from the Warner Bros. Lot is a full-length documentary that features some of Warner Bros.’ top talent and executives giving an inside look at the history of the studio. In on-the-lot interviews, stars including Clint Eastwood, Steve Carell, Morgan Freeman, Martin Sheen, along with current and former studio toppers Barry Meyer, Alan Horn, Bob Daly, and Terry Semel, and others, recount personal reflections and anecdotes about their experiences at the studio. Tales from the Warner Bros. Lot was produced by documentarian Gary Khammar (It’s So Audrey! A Style Icon) and producer Bill Gerber (Gran Torino).

Now, for the first time, home viewers can take the hugely popular Warner Bros Studio VIP Tour in this new documentary produced exclusively for the 90th Anniversary collections. In The Warner Bros. Lot Tour, an official WB Lot Tour Guide gives guests a “virtual” tram ride (of what some 200,000 annual visitors experience) — an extraordinary opportunity to see first-hand where movie magic happens at the world’s busiest motion picture and television studio. Unlike a theme park, the Tour represents a rare and intimate “behind-the-scenes” look at real Hollywood, winding through back lot streets, sound stages, sets and craft shops."

The collections will contain the following films:

EVE Online Retribution Announced, Detailed

Chances are you've probably read more about EVE Online than you've played it. Approaching its 10-year anniversary, the spaceship-filled MMO from CCP Games has only grown each year, and the team predicts that 2013 will be their biggest yet with the free upcoming expansion EVE Online: Retribution.

Retribution is CCP's attempt to make EVE a bit more approachable, as well as update systems that just aren't working all that well. Most notably, the team is changing up the Bounty Hunting and Crimewatch systems. The new bounty system will allow players to not only place marks on users, but also corporations and alliances. The Crimewatch system will now have very easy-to-understand symbols that show you what level of crime you've committed and tell you the consequences at a glance. Additionally, Crimewatch is being redesigned so that there are less loopholes for players to commit crimes and then take actions that game the intended system. CCP loves emergent gameplay, but they really want Retribution to emphasize the idea that every action has a tangible consequence.

Other changes coming in the December 4th expansion are tweaks to the Factional Warfare system, revamped art and graphics for ships, a new mining frigate, four new destroyers (one for each faction), NPC AI improvements, better UI, a "Weapon Safety" feature that will prevent new players from accidentally committing crimes and the opening up of some of the studio's CREST API to see what users can do with it. CCP also wants to do some rebalancing, with boosts to early warfare, as well as improvements to the role and progression systems for ships.

Square Reveals Final Fantasy 25th Anniversary Collection

Final Fantasy’s 25th anniversary celebration is in full effect over in Japan, and a rather interesting tidbit was revealed leading up to the main event. Andriasang reports that Square Enix will be releasing something called the Final Fantasy 25th Anniversary Ultimate Box, which includes the 13 core Final Fantasy games in one handy compilation.

The games in the collection include the following:

  • Final Fantasy (PSone)
  • Final Fantasy II (PSone)
  • Final Fantasy III (PSP)
  • Final Fantasy IV (PSone)
  • Final Fantasy V (PSone)
  • Final Fantasy VI (PSone)
  • Final Fantasy VII (PSone)
  • Final Fantasy VIII (PSone)
  • Final Fantasy IX (PSone)
  • Final Fantasy X (PS2)
  • Final Fantasy XI (PS2)
  • Final Fantasy XII (PS2)
  • Final Fantasy XIII (PS3)

It was initially unclear if Square Enix would actually be releasing PSone discs (and PSP UMDs) along with PS2 and PS3 discs, but according to its listing on Square Enix’s website, it appears that is the case. All told, the collection will contain 21 discs (18 PSone, 3 PS2, 1 PS3) and a single UMD.

It will also include a “special anniversary video disc,” a soundtrack spanning two discs and more.

The collection reportedly costs ¥35,000, or $447. It comes out in Japan on September 30th. Whether or not it will be released anywhere else remains to be seen.
