Jet Set Willy 360 Release Date

The classic ZX Spectrum game Jet Set Willy is to be relaunched as Jet Set Willy 360 on Xbox 360.

The game will become available on August 24 as an Xbox Live Indie game available on Xbox Live. A Windows Phone version will also be released on the same date.

Jet Set Willy is the sequel to 1983's Manic Miner, and tasks you with tidying up Willy's house following a huge party in order to gain access to his bedroom. The game arrives courtesy of developer Elite Systems, who is apparently also considering bringing more classic re-releases to Microsoft's console.

Elite MD Steve Wilcox explained, "The release of Jet Set Willy 360 as an Xbox Live Indie Game and as a Windows Phone game is the next exciting step in bringing classic ZX Spectrum games to a new audience, via new devices and platforms and in the process restoring some order to the market.

"We began doing this some 22 months ago with our ZX Spectrum: Elite Collection Apps for iOS devices and in the intervening period there have been more than 100,000 paid instances. The release of Jet Set Willy 360 follows the positive reception and a successful launch of Manic Miner 360 as an Xbox Live Indie Game and as a Windows Phone game. It’s expected to be followed by more classic ZX Spectrum Games."

FCC Forces Verizon to Allow Tethering Apps

A recent FCC investigation of Verizon's use of the "C Block" frequency spectrum it uses to operate its LTE network found the carrier's policy of banning 3rd-party tethering apps to be in violation of open-access provisions of its license. No more "This item is not available on your carrier" messages.

Given crystal-clear language like "[Licensees] shall not deny, limit, or restrict the ability of their customers to use the devices and applications of their choice on the licensee's C Block network," it's actually sort of amazing the investigation lasted almost a year, but the settlement is a step in the right direction.

In addition to re-enabling the 11 tethering apps they'd been blocking, Verizon must pay $1.25 million to cover FCC costs.

Verizon has "revised its service offerings such that consumers on usage-based pricing plans may tether, using any application," the FCC report states. No definite word yet on how the carrier will handle grandfathered unlimited data plans, but at least the apps are back.
